FastPic5 Software Batch Handling Feature Improves Productivity in Pick and Put Applications
by Press Release on 2011-01-07
FastPic5 inventory management and control software from FastPic Systems provides a batch handling function that improves the throughput and productivity of pick and put operations.
Batch picking is the process of picking multiple orders simultaneously and is one of the most cost effective ways to improve throughput and productivity in order fulfillment operations. Selected orders are batched and are processed concurrently. Each order is assigned a individual tote before picking begins. The storage device presents a part and displays a quantity for the operator to pick. The operator distributes the parts picked among the totes on the batch station. Once an order has all of the required parts, the tote is sent to shipping.
In single pick operations, an operator may visit the same storage location multiple times when picking orders throughout their shift. With batch picking, an operator only visits each storage location one time during the batch, increasing productivity by up to 2/3.
FastPic5 software allows users to use static, dynamic or operator defined batching to meet specific order fulfillment needs. In static batching, batches are created ahead of time by the order entry department and sent to FastPic5 for batch picking. The operator simply processes the next pending batch order. Using dynamic batching, FastPic5 builds the next batch for the operator, creating minimal work for the operator. Operator defined batching allows the operator to create the next batch from a list of pending orders.
FastPic5 software also allows the batch picking process to be interrupted with "hot picks"—individual picks that must be made to customer delivery expectations. The hot pick is simply added to the top of the queue to pick next. After the pick the operator returns to picking the batched orders.
FastPic5 software can be integrated with host software, pick and put-to-light technology and automated storage and retrieval systems to increase throughput up to 600% and accuracy rates up to 99.9% by eliminating dwell time caused by operators searching for the correct storage location.
FastPic5 software is designed to manage manual and automated storage and retrieval systems and can be configured to control single workstations and multiple work zones. The Standard Interface Protocol provides an efficient link between host order entry systems and FastPic5 software, as well as many WMS and ERP systems.
Features such as bar code scanning, bulk storage management, and a range of supervisory reports and options are also available. Advanced cubing algorithms in the software allow users to maximize the use of both floor space and storage space. It is built on the Microsoft.Net technology platform, giving organizations the flexibility to keep applications current to quickly respond to business demands. FastPic5 software can be fully integrated with existing FastPic software systems.
