GEFCO UK: New versatile transporters lead to fewer journeys

by Press Release on 2011-09-14

GECFO Drivers 13th September 2011: GEFCO UK has introduced a brand new specification of vehicle transporter, able to carry multiple load combinations, as part of a major commitment to the future expansion of its fleet.

The company has purchased nine transporters of a new model – the EHR 3.00 W UK – that has never previously been available for UK transportation. The vehicles will enable GEFCO to optimise their load-carrying capacity and also provide a range of environmental and safety benefits.

The new models are part of a larger fleet renewal programme that has seen GEFCO purchase a total of 17 new transporters from LOHR in the last few months. GEFCO now has one of the youngest and most versatile fleets in the UK, with the average age of the combined fleet being less than two years.

Each new EHR 3.00 W UK transporter is designed with a high level of flexibility, allowing them to carry a wide range of load combinations. These include carrying up to 11 cars, or seven medium vans or even three large vans and four cars on the same load. The versatile design ensures each vehicle can maximise its capacity, resulting in fewer journeys on the road.

In line with GEFCO’s ongoing work to reduce its carbon footprint, the new EHR 3.00 W UK transporters will also bring improved fuel consumption, low emissions and reduced tyre wear through both truck and trailer lift axles. The ability to load and strap the vehicles from the ground supports GEFCO’s rigorous approach to Health and Safety and the incorporated ‘scissor lift’ mechanism permits the trailer deck to be close to maximum width, minimising the risk of damage to vehicles in transit.

GEFCO Trucks GEFCO UK Automotive Director, Bertrand De Techtermann, said: “The fact that we are the first UK carrier to introduce this model highlights the importance GEFCO places on delivering an effective and flexible service to our customers. These transporters will provide good operational flexibility, reduce damage risk and lead to greater environmental efficiencies.

“GEFCO is committed to setting new standards and our choice of this model will ensure we remain at the forefront of the transportation industry. Through our ongoing partnership with LOHR, we are proud to be consistently leading the way in innovative fleet modernisation.”

The new vehicle transporters will be deployed at GEFCO’s distribution centres at Corby and Sandtoft.
